Dan Johnson Talks about Art and More
My life in the Blog Lane
by Dan Johnson on 07/19/10
It's been a long time since I put anything int his blog. Lots has happened, good things. I have gotten some commissions which is always more then good. I have 7 small paintings I must get done this week, so I will be a busy camper. I have involved myself with the local art group in Montebello, and gave a painting demo last Monday. People were interested in taking art lessons from me, so I am at this time seeing if I can get space at the local Senior Center to give the lessons. I have a strong desire to pass on knowledge, and it all seems to be moving forward. Have a great day to Everyone!!
Lots Happening
by Dan Johnson on 06/07/10
This is my first blog in several weeks. I did finish my website. That is a very good thing. I am happy with it, yippee!! I got a commission that is coming along nicely, so that is better yet. Today I went to a local art show and met some very nice people. It is local, in Montebello where I am living now. I am trying to put together an art class, and some of the people there seemed interested. I have had a deep desire to pass on artistic knowledge for a long time. This is the first time I have tried seriously to teach. It would be fun if one day a week I could do it. That's it for now, Later Blong Land
Our Scanner
by Dan Johnson on 05/08/10
It is the week end, yippee!! We are getting ready to leave for the Palm Springs area to spend some time with friends there. It will be a great time.
Last night my wife got our scanner working. This will make life so much easier working on my website, as well as giving me better results. For photos, sketches and other things I want represented in my website that isn't on my computer, I was having to phograph it in order to put in on the puter. That was lots of work, plus the results were not as good as I wanted. I am going to have to replace some things that I have already used, but it is ok, it is for the best.
Need to pack and get gone.
Typos and a New Day
by Dan Johnson on 05/07/10
Just another beautiful sunny CA day. Yesterday I got some good work done in my media section as well as (Hopefully) cleaning up the "My Thoughts" section. In this blog it is raw and as I write it first draft, typos and all. Oh, and as for typos, we all know all my misspelled words have to be typos, right? I have decided that in this blog I am not going to go back and change mistakes.
I corrected some misspelled words this morning my wife brought to my attention in the media section. That section will get some more attention today. And I hope to get some more sketches loaded in the sketch gallery. I am going to look for some real old ones, as I have sketch books going back over twenty years.
The weekend is almost here. Gotta get to it. This blog-a-rama is ending.
Yesterday was productive
by Dan Johnson on 05/06/10
I had a very productive day yesterday. I wrote the section called "My Thoughts". I need to re-write it today. I like the information and emotion but the writing needs lots of work. My grammer is not the best. Regrettably I didn't like English in High School. When I need to write I just go for it. I make the corrections I see then, but I am always blind to what it truly needs on the first day. By going back the next day I can look at it with fresh eyes. One of my projects today is to clean up that sesction.
I started the Media Section under Special Interests. I am really loving what I did there. Of course I need to re-write areas there too. I really like the photos I put in of the Aquamantra Water Bottles. I think the lay-out came out really good.
Enough for now, back to work.............
What a morning!
by Dan Johnson on 05/05/10
This is what a sunny California morning is all about. The sun is streaming into our window, and the temp is just perfect. It's good to be alive today.
As for my new website, it is nearly finished as far as the main important content. There is still lots more I need to do to it, but the galleries are done, and other imortant pages. Today I want to see just what I want to add to it. I need to start painting again, as I have been working full time on getting this site done. I look at it like moving into a new home. You get things put away, but after all the work of getting it livable, if you quit there seems to be boxes that just sit there for months on end. I think you get the idea, I want to get this website as I want it.
This is it for now. Another post becomes history.
Sketch Gallery
by Dan Johnson on 05/04/10
Today I worked on getting some sketches in my new Sketch Gallery. I personally like sketches, and I'm excited about this particular gallery. I uploaded the first 18 sketches into it today. I have lots of content that I will gradually build this gallery with. It takes time, as I have to photograph each sketch I want to put into it, download it to my computer photo program where I fix the sketches up and get them ready for the gallery. Then I have to put them in the gallery. I think the sketches are so fun. I hope people enjoy them.
I gotta go make dinner, so that is it for now. Blog on, lol.
My first Blog Ever!
by Dan Johnson on 05/03/10
This is my first blog, and my first post to it. How interesting, or at least interesting to me. My first thoughts are; Why would anyone want to hear what I have to say? I suppose the answer to that will be in the future. For now I will play around with this blog concept and see if it leads to anything rewarding.
About this website. I just created it. I made one some years back, but the program I used was not friendly to changing and managing the gallery. Being this is a Gallery for my Art, you can imagine that was negitave. After spending a couple of months to make that first website, I never made one change or up-date to it. Not good.
I asked a friend who is a computer guy if he knew of a good website builder, he told me about one on-line called "Homestead". There was a free trial, so I gave it a try. I will say that it is great. I am very pleased with their product, and the gallery aspect of it is very easy to use, arange, and up-date.
I made this Gallery in the style I wanted. I did not use a pre-made template. It is lots of work, but by making the one last time, the concept was similar. Yes, there is a learning curve, but once I got use to how it all works, building this site went pretty fast. At this time it is not fully finished, and this is the 4th week I have been building it. It takes time but it is worth it.
Now I have to see what I can do to bring people to my On-line Gallery. Time will tell how it will all go.
Well, this is the first post. Hello to everyone out there in blog land, even if for this particular blog it may only be me for now, lol. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
